anyone here shave with a straight razor? just curious? I'm pondering making the switch. it seems like an expensive investment but pay's itself off not having to buy disposables. I switched from canned shave cream to a shave soap and brush and have found that I can now shave daily without ingrown hairs. :hyper::cool: I still like a few days growth between shaves though. |
nobody...? |
Most days I shave with a straight. I use the kind that uses half a safety razor blade. Similar to this one :http://www.ebay.com/itm/straight-bar...item43b7a58749 (example only. I know noting of this seller) Some days, I use a 1940s a Gillette safety razor. Either way I use only Derby Extra blades. No matter how reputable the shop that got them shave ready, I haven't been able to get a comfortable shave with my vintage straight razors. |
No but I've been thinking about the switch as well. There's a fun documentary on Netflix called Manscaping done by that Spurlock guy and has a bunch of stars in it. Check it... |
I use an electric razor. When my peach fuzz gets too fuzzy, I use a disposible razor. Sweeney Todd, the musical, was enough to scare me away from using a straight razor. |
I had a dream once where I gave a friend a shave with a straight razor, in the middle of physics class...that was one weird dream |
I think there's a big thread somewhere in OT about straight and safety razors. |

Yep Gillette safety razor here. I got a razor with adjustable blade 'depth', and get a month or two from each blade. I hated shaving with disposables, but quite enjoy the old-school process of shaving now. |
I bought one when I was 17. I got a nice shave that seemed to stay smoothe for about 2 days. But the razor was made in Pakistan and I couldn't keep it honed. I'm going to make the switch, but not yet. I'm thinking I'll save some money for the whole kit and change over in a few months. |
