I just bought a load of tapes and a new Sony Walkman to listen to them on. It rocks.
Anyone agree?

My wife as about a dozen 8 Tracks that she refuses to get rid of. She has nothing to play them on but........... The Walkman was a great thing when it came out. It was actually amazing at the time considering what was available. |

I still have some great old radio programs on cassette - on trips I sometimes take a Walkman with me and plug it into the Aux input on my car radio and listen to them. But that's about all use it for.

The thing I hated was searching for a tune. Also, I would listen to some tapes to much that they sounded like they were warping. Some tapes had too much treble response while others sounded muddy. Some of them made clicking sounds or the player would make a squealing/squeaking sound.
I guess I really didn't enjoy listening to tapes all that much.

I'm surprised more people didn't crack up their cars while trying to read what cassette tape they were searching for. Both 8-track and cassette tapes were susceptible to tears and becoming spaghetti. Not too pleasant.

I've still got a load of cassettes, a decent cassette deck on my stereo and pull them out from time to time. For all the BS about the "experience" of listening to vinyl and cassette- it's a pain in the rear looking for tracks or skipping over tracks or queuing up a bunch of stuff to selectively listen to... Forget it. I like listening to music, I like playing music... I don't like spending time preparing to do so.
As far as 8 tracks... I grew up with the big console stereo, probably 8 feet long... BMF turntable, AM/FM reciever and an 8 track on the side. I had a bunch of really bad 8 track when I was a kid- somewhere around 6th grade I got a bunch of Beatles 8 tracks. Around that time I got my first stereo, with turntable, AM/FM and 8 track. I don't think I got my first cassette player until the first Asia album came out. I hated that big KA-CHUNK right in the middle of a song- especially if you weren't expecting it. The one I remember hating the most- it in the middle of "I Want You, She's So Heavy" Yeah, quarter inch tape was cool, but the KA-CHUNK killed it.
BTW- for you echoplex users- Anne Murray 8 tracks work great for the Echoplex....
