Anyone here Teach for America?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm wondering if anyone here has had first-hand experience with Teach for America. I am considering applying next year, I attended an information meeting tonight and it seems like something I would be excited to do for a lot of reasons. So I'm just wanting some feedback from anyone who knows anything about it, good or bad.

Thanks!

I don't have firsthand experience. But a friend of mine did it last school year after getting her bachelor's. She found it rewarding--but man, the pay was low. So you really have to have your heart in it.

You get paid salary plus 10k, doesn't seem so bad at all.

Sounds interesting.

Question: Are you guaranteed to remain in your city if you wish or is relocation required?

You apply with your interested grade level, subject, and location, and they get to know you through phone and personal interviews (if you make it that far). In the end they decide where and what you will teach, and you can either accept it or not - no commitment to do something if you don't want to go somewhere. The likelihood of getting your pick depends on what you pick.
