anyone into home stereo tube amplification?

Sign in to disble this ad
i've been looking at some products from ideal innovations, as well as mcintosh, etc...

i'd like to begin to assemble a home system around a quality tube power amp--wondering if anyone has gone this route and might offer some insight

not sure i can currently afford enough power to drive a home theater system this way, but eventually that's what i want

i'm considering starting off with a smaller power amp as a table-top system that i can feed turntable as well as ipod, etc.

i've had a few small class A amps, and i loved them. iirc they were 6wpc and sounded great through some klipsch cornwalls.
i've heard about people using mesa's strategy 400 power amps for home stereo, a poor man's mesa baron.
i've also toyed with hooking up my rivera tbr-5 to my home theatre, its rated @ 160/45 or 70/20 depending on pentode/triode and high or low, so it would have more than enough power for a stereo set-up. they were used quite a bit in theatres originally; there is one nos on rivera's website for $1k.

cool info, man--thanks for the suggestions, i was wondering if there were any way to use something like the power amps you mention for the more demanding stuff than a tabletop radio--i'll look into this route as well
