Anyone Know What These Connectors are Called?

Sign in to disble this ad
I need to get the torpedo shaped contacts out without damaging the connector. I'm sure there must be a tool to do this, but I can't find anything.

Here's the connector itself...

Here's a look at the torpedo connector. As you can see, I need to squeeze two sides of it at once to release the wires from the connector.

FYI - this is for an ignitor to a heating system.

Thanks!

unless its in manufacturing, i dont think they make a tool for that. when i have to get connectors out of a plug like that i use a fine pick.

this is what i have....i'm sure you can find a cheaper set of craftsman of husky.

Use a small piece of tube to slip over the pin, wiggle it around as you pull gently on the pin to remove it. The tube will compress the locking tabs and allow it to slip out with no damage.

EDIT: The tool is here.

crimp pins for quick connects (molex). And they do make a tool for it. there is a punch you insert in the recepticle at the business end of the pin... You can usually reuse these connectors a few times before the "seating" wears out.

first off i was wondering if you are looking for answers to a) what the connector is called and/or b) how to get the connector pins out without damaging the connector ..... assuming you want both:

a) the actual plastic housing is a molex type connector and a great place to start is at digikey www.digikey.com and type 'molex' into the search box

b) the tool used to remove the molex pins is here:

http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...name=WM9930-ND

to order new pins, here is the link with the part number and ordering info:

http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...name=WM1102-ND

if you don't care about ruining the pins, the suggested picks would work but then you would need the crimping tool (expensive) to replace new pins

EDIT: when you say 'connector', do you mean the plastic housing or the actual metal pin
