If they make them, then the bank should have them. Otherwise your only option would probably be something like the franklin mint.

They don't make them. Only the Presidential coins. The last "silver dollar" coins would be the "Eisenhower" Dollars. The weren't silver and haven't been produced since 1978.

They haven't made any Dollar coins with actual silver since around 1932..

The only Dollar coins produced after 1978 were the Susan B. Anthony, the Sacagawea, the presidential series, and I think there is now a native american design..

Starting with the Sacagawea, all dollar coins have a gold color..

I believe the 2010 Dollar coin is a tribute to Disabled Vets.
All current US coins are available from the United States Mint.
Here's a link to their home page:

When you receive your commission as an Officer in the United States military, it is customary to give the enlisted man who gives you your first salute, a silver dollar.

I get commissioned March 15.

It needs to be the year of my commissioning or an anniversary of my birth (1985, 1995, 2005).

I just checked up on it, and while a Silver Dollar is the "traditional" way to do it, apparntly since they are out of production, a $1 coin will suffice.

Are coming out of an Academy or OCS/OTS? If the latter, what are the chances he'll be the DI Sgt. who rode you through? (That's the way it is in the movies.)

I graduated from VMI in May but my commission got delayed due to some waiver paperwork I had to get done at the last minute (long story). The Gunnery Sergeant giving me my first salute is the Assistant Military Officer Instructor up at VMI as well as a DI/Sergeant Instructor up at OCS. He's a good man.
