Anyone like to fish?

Since Spring is just around the corner and warmer days are upon us who out there is gearing up for some fishing? I just bought a new low profile baitcaster that I tried out for the first time yesterday and I got a couple of decent fish with it. So bassplayers, who fishes?

Love fishing! I'm mainly a freshwater guy but do venture out into the ocean for some stripers once in a while.

Ice fished for this first time in years a few weeks ago. Fun but it was insanely cold. Too cold for the booze to even help!

I used to love fishing, infact, still plan on getting back to it.

I did some bank fishing and river fishing, but mostly it was freshwater loch fishing from a boat (fly), and generally for Rainbow Trout.

I think there's quite a bit fishing thread in OT somewhere.

Yea I'm mainly a freshwater fisher too. I'm looking into buying a small boat for some river fishing but havn't seen a deal on a used one that I like yet. I really want to get into some fly fishing this year. I've never gone fly fishing before but hopefully that will change this year.

Once a year I go on a 4 day fishing trip/vacation in Oxford, Wisconsin over Memorial Day weekend sponsored by my employer. There's usually four or five of us who always go and we've been doing it for 7 years now. Other than that I haven't fished since I was a kid.

The fishing we do is from among several glacial lakes in the area that are full of largemouth bass, northern pike, bullhead and panfish such as bluegill, sunfish and crappies. Every year we have a big pile of fish that makes for a traditional Wisconsin beer batter fish fry where we stuff ourselves sick with fish and wash it all down with large quantities of booze.

Good times.

Another great thing about fly fishing is tying your own flies, good fun and a real art when you start getting technical!

I know my grandfather has been doing that for years so I'm going to get him to teach me a thing or two about it. I guess one of the main things holding me back from fly fishing is the price, some of the lures/fishing poles are up there. I'm not sure why the poles are so much more expensive than your typical fishing rod, but I guess it's just one of those things.

I used to fish often in a lake near where I live, but most fishing I do has turned into going to Northeast Iowa to go trout fishing in clear water streams. Extremely fun in some extremely good land.

I guess Fly rods can sometimes be a bit longer? Other than that I wouldn't know them as being more expensive. You can still get pretty good quality ones without going OTT (but I agree, the top line stuff is insanely expensive!).

Lures, well, yeah, I guess that's why so many people make their own , smaller fishing shops (at least over here) usually have a pretty good selection that isn't too expensive.

Best fishing experience in my entire life?

About two years ago, I went up to Cambridge Bay to work for my grandfather. Every day after 5:00 when we'd get off work, we'd go fishing. The midnight sun was out, so it was just absolutely beautiful. It was pure beauty; about 10 degrees, the water was cold, blue and pure....And the char? You'd catch AT LEAST one char per fishing outing.

On weekends (especially sunday), we'd drive a ways out of town to fish in the arctic ocean. Incredible experience. The best part? I got paid to do it. Free round-trip flight courtesy of my grandfather's company, a well paying summer job. Could it get any better?

I used to love to fish when I was a kid and I keep on promising my kids that I'll take them sometime soon. Maybe this spring we'll give it a shot.

When I lived near the Gulf I fished 3-4 days a week after work. Now that I'm land-locked in the big city I never get out.
