Hey guys,
So over the weekend I was talking to my family (Canadian Thanksgiving) and I learned a little about my family history.
Turns out that somewhere in Ireland (I'm not sure where exactly at the moment, but I will soon) there is a GIANT statue of Jesus on the cross.
As far as location goes, it was built maybe...1900-1910? and it's in the middle of a field, and back then, it was built on Protest land.
if anyone knows anything about the location of this cross, could ya let me know?
Thanks! |

That's in Connemara, Galway.
I assume you mean this one.

Apparently, the cross is in County Tyrone in Northern Ireland.
My cousin thinks it's in a town called "Gorntasole" or something along those lines.
Anyone? |

A few towns near it are, Gortaclady, Gortreagh or Gortalowry.
Gortalowry is the nearest, close to a bigger town called Cookstown, if that any help.
This would be Ardboe High Cross, about 18 feet high.
EDIT: Just noticed its Jesus on The Cross your after, oops.

It could be one of the two cities you mentioned Darkstrike.
I just found out he has a picture with it (my cousin) so i'll find out what it looks like soon. |

Here's the picture of it guys.
It looks like it's in the middle of nowhere.
This is what the cross is looking at.
Has anyone been there before? |

If you had a close enough pic to read what is wrote on the dye stone, it would be a lot easier.

Thats not a common name, might be handy to find more info.
I can't really read the top dye stone, but what I can make out tells me, it's a standard prayer on graves.

haha No, chances are I am related to them.
I gotta find out more about my Great Grandfather.
I know he owned a Whiskey Company in Scotland. I think it was called Silver Stag?
Turns out, he got fired from his job when he was a crop worker, told the guy he'd be back to buy the land, became a millionaire, came back, bought the land, and built that cross on Protestant land. That's something my family would do! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
