Anyone moved a "marble-top" table? Need Advice

Sign in to disble this ad
My son just bought a second-hand dining set, which I get to help move. The top & sides are quarter-inch thick marble squares fixed to a concrete slab, which sits on a wood leg assembly. Altogether the top is about 1.5" thick, 42" x 70". Heavy, but not impossibly heavy and I think 2 guys could heft it.

I'm worried about how to handle it and transport it (125 miles). I don't want to chip the edges or corners, or flex it either. Then once in the truck, should it be on edge or flat on the deck? Do I need cushioning?

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated especially from anyone who has moved one of these tables, or who has worked as a professional mover.

pad it. marble dents, chips, and scratches. place padding around it probably some thick foam, or several blankets/moving covers. lay it flat. the concrete and marble slabtop will damage anything it tips on, and will probably damage itself due to its own weight if you lean it or stand it. be safe... just pad it, and lay it flat.

Good advice, pads are cheap at the local rental place.
