I work about a mile east of the fire but was already home in SF when it happened. At a local strip mall they have set up a command center, and I went through there for lunch today. Tons of newstrucks.
A friend of a friends family lost their home. one of 38 that burned down within hours last night. Actually I think that some of them burned up within one hour. The gas flame was 100 feet high! sucks.
also, this area is very close to San Andreas lake, a lake formed by the faultlilne. It wouldn't surprise me if an earth movement had something to do with the rupture of the 24 inch gas line.
