Anyone with some IT knowledge can you help me out?

I have a class presentation due for my English class and I'm trying to convert videos from facebook to download on the computer and use Movie Maker to make the presentation. The problem is everytime I try to download the video it's not working. I can only use online video converters due to me using the schools computer so does anyone know a good conversion site for facebook videos?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

I am not sure what exactly you require the videos for, but as an idea, you could always embed the videos into your presentation and use them that way. It would be very simple and effective to do.

Since you mentioned Movie Maker though, I get the feeling that you need to edit these videos in some manner...

Option B is to download a Firefox addon (assuming you use firefox) called Video DownloadHelper. Instructions to download the video can be found on this youtube tutorial video: YouTube - How to Download Videos from Facebook

Hope this helps.

I need to make a presentation that has videos in it, that is why I was asking about that. I'm not sure how to embed videos but I should be able to figure that out. As for the download option, I currently am using internet explorer and don't have firefox. Thanks for the help man.

Simply download Firefox and start taking advantage of the many video add-ons and extensions you can use. They are free, as is Firefox, and it takes no time at all to begin using them.

You could even just use it for these tasks and not even change over your general web use from IE, as I know certain institutions want IE. But I haven't run it on a PC (or Mac) in ages. Firefox is great.

I don't think YouTube allows downloads. If you have a screen recording program like Camtasia you can play the video and record the part of the screen showing the video. For audio you will need to do the capture with a patch cord between the headphone and mic jacks. There is a free screen recording program called Camstudio that will do the same-but only if your school computer will allow you to install software. Camstudio works and the price is right.

If you can capture the audio and video during playback, you can save and edit the capture files. Be warned that the resolution will be quite bad because of the compression on video on YouTube.

If you can't do anything else, get a cell phone, shoot some documentary video of your school with it and transfer and edit those files. Movie Maker will do that.

Turns out after some sleuthing that embedding facebook videos into powerpoint is harder than I thought because of the privacy settings.

I honestly suggest you get Firefox and follow the steps above to download the video. It seems like the easiest and most logical solution for your needs at this point.

If you find the videos you need on YouTube, embedding those into Powerpoint is possible since they don't have the same privacy/login issues that occur with Facebook.

Let me know what you think..

These links might help:

How to insert Youtube Videos into PowerPoint

Embed Web Videos in PowerPoint Presentations

How to Embed Almost Anything in your Website

As explained in one of those links, it's potentially risky as it's dependent on a stable (& fast) internet connection, plus there's a possibility of missing video codecs on the host machine making a complete mess of everything.

This could get even more embarrassing if your college IT department blocks YouTube & Facebook.

Much safer to download the videos, convert them to either AVI or WMV format & then embed them directly into PowerPoint. The conversion bit is a failsafe as PPt can have trouble with the FLV & MP4 formats commonly found on Youtube & Facebook. This could be difficult for you as your school network admins probably won't let you download & install any 'unapproved' software. Any friends that use FireFox that can help you out?

However you do it, remember the three golden rules of presentations:

1 - Just because you can do something (like clever animations or bells-'n'-whistles transitions) doesn't mean you have to - less really is more.

2 - Give it a test run on a completely different computer on a completely different network before you present it. This will show up all sorts of potential pitfalls like font embedding, missing video codecs, dud hyperlinks etc.

3 - Copyright. Just because someone's posted it up on a website DOES NOT mean that the content has somehow magically become Royalty Free.

What's the topic for the presentation?

Pete.

They are all videos of me doing stupid things, like putting firecrackers in my pants pocket and lighting them on fire and riding a wagon off of a sheds roof and dancing around like an idiot so no worries about copyright infringment. I'm going to try doing doing what others have suggested on Monday. The project isn't do till Tuesday and I work better under pressure anyways. The topic of the presentation is supposed to be a comedy type presentation, so I figured those videos would suffice.
