Question Anyone Spending Christmas Alone?

Sign in to disble this ad
This is strange -- for the first time in my 46 years, I'll be spending Christmas by myself. (Can't get home because I have to work on Wednesday.)

I think I'm okay with it but still, it feels a little strange.

I'm sure there are lots of folks who do this all the time, so what do you do -- treat it like any other day?

A number of places (and organizations) have Christmas dinners for people who are away from home like you. Check your local newspaper events section. It can be a very boring day if spent by yourself, especially since most everything (stores and businesses) are closed. Although, more places are starting to open in the afternoons on Christmas these days.

Merry Christmas!

Im spending it alone. As usual. I feel like im in solitarty confinement Oh well, its my fault. Im too self absorbed, and self centered, all I have is ME on my mind.
Maybe I should try being nice to people. I might get some friends. No ?

Yip! It's pretty easy if you're not relgious and you work shifts .

I have my "special occassions" whenever I can get together with my friends - don't have to do it on the same day as everyone else!

Go practise your bass, or something .

(Merry Christmas, IotaNet)

Yup, I am this year. My brother's family took a trip that I wasn't able to join in on, my other brother is 1000k's away, my housemate is at his GF's and my best mate is a stongly religious Christian (I'm not - it's about the only thing we disagree on) and so is spending the day at church and functions that I feel really uncomfortable participating in.

So I cooked up a big feed for myself and my dog, and am enjoying the quiet. Maybe read a book on the verandah later.

I'm a bit surprised at the online traffic.

Anyway, Cheers or Bah, Humbug to you all!

I had an interesting thought this evening.

I am originally from Chicago and moved to Minneapolis 4 years ago. I get to Chicago once a month to spend time with my 13 y.o. son who lives with my Ex. (I'm blessed to NOT have drama there -- we have an excellent co-parenting relationship and my son and I are very close)

Anyway, I always go to Chicago for major holidays and I usually stay in the guest suite in my Mom's house. This Chiristmas is the first that I won't be able to get there.

I was thinking about the fact that it kinda sucks that I won't be able to get "Home for the holidays" when it hit me, Minneapolis IS home for me and I am already home.

Odd that this is the first time I've realized how my thinking has shifted.

I work shift work, so the Holidays are always on hold for me. My first wife died in 2002, so Christmas is kinda hard for my Son and I sometimes.

I'm totally with you on that. I pulled up to the gates of my company and thought, "Where the hell is everybody?..."
The guard buzzed me in and said, "Merry Christmas!"

"...Oh yeah..."
