Musically you'll want to get to Steve's http://www.stevesmusic.com/

Long and Mcquade, likely the Bloor location http://www.long-mcquade.com/

The twelfth Fret on the Danforth http://www.12fret.com/

Ring Music up on Harbord st http://www.ringmusic.com/

All of which are accessible via public transport. L and M has limited free parking, the rest is street parking
Both L and M and Ring are quite close together, and if you've a mind you could add Steve's in in a one day visit as well.

In the west end there's Club Bass http://www.clubbass.ca/

Also north of the city and just off the highway there's Cosmos. Think of this place as the Home Depot of music stores

Leave you wallet and or credit cards safely with someone else that has more willpower than you

I lived just outside Toronto for 15 years, up to last year, good suggestions already made. I got one to add though, if you have the chance, go watch a concert at the kool haus, such a great atmosphere there, and by far my favourite place to go for a show.

Heffalump pretty much named all the good music shops. If there's anything else you're interested in (shows? certain genres?) let me know, I could make some suggestions.

In general, we have boatloads of amazing international cuisine (world's most diverse city FTW), lots of live music. A city is a city, so there's always something happening here. Let me know what you're into.
