| I recently picked up a USB/WiFi adapter that uses an external antenna. It works pretty well -- definitely better than a built-in antenna. I got it on ebay.
At the WiFi frequencies (2.4 GHz for the more common WiFi band; 5 GHz for the other), there is a lot of attenuation in the cables feeding the external antennas. So, a long cable may reduce or even cancel out the effects of a high gain antenna. Keep your cable as short as possible. |
