To Anyone Who's Never Seen The "Cosmos" Mini Series...

...it's available on Netflix's Watch Instantly/Xbox streaming setup, and I highly recommend watching at least a few episodes. I noticed last week that it was there, and just finished re-watching all of the episodes. I haven't seen them since I was 10 or 12. While some of the effects are cheesy by today's terms (it was originally aired in 1979), it still holds up as one of the most compelling and eloquently written shows I've ever seen. Carl Sagan is someone I've always had deep respect for, and the series really showcases his passion, intelligence, concern for the world, and awe at the universe itself.

I have the Cosmos series on DVD and I think I've watched it about 5 times. They should make that required viewing in 7th or 8th grade science class.

The remake has some updated material as well as special effects/footage and it's worth seeing. But I'd skip over the commentaries from Carl Sagan's widow. She is reeeeeeealy annoying.

In my opinion, the music for the series is a big part of the success of Cosmos. Great selection of mostly classical music and modern (for the 1970's) electronic music. Lots of selections from Vangelis including the Title and credit music.

Absolutely. Brilliant delivery of some wonderful information.

I have the hardcover book that was a gift from my parents the year it came out (forgot the year now), and it changed my life. The book still has a favored place in my collection, and always will.

The world lost someone important beyond words when Carl passed, he has not been replaced, and that is a sad thing.
