Anyone work in the National Park Service or a State Agency?

Just curious if anyone else here is a ranger, interpreter, etc.

I'm about to graduate and have been trying to land a job with the NPS and any other state agency. These government cuts and the crappy job market have made it nearly impossible for a new graduate with minimal experience to find anything.

So, I just want to see if any other members of TB are in the NPS, or are in the same vein as me? (can't find a position)

Yeah.

I don't know anyone, but this story ran on our local news earlier this year: Broke park system gives workers free housing | KING5.com. Maybe you can get hooked up like that guy.

It's sad, but probably the best way to get a job in a park these days is to get in with a concessionaire.

Take any job you can get (even if that's working in a shop or a bar or something) and volunteer at a local reservation if you can.

- Shows enthusiasm
- Gives you experience
- Doesn't cost them anything

If you would consider more education, PM me. My school trains people to work in museums and parks as part of our history program.

Dr. Cheese, thanks for your support. However, I have been accepted as a masters student in Resource Interpretation at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. It is the only resource interpretation program in the country designed in partnership with the NPS. I chose it because of that NPS link, which I think will serve me well.

That's my route right now. I'm applying for a part time grounds/repair job where I'd spend a bit of time working in the visitor centers, doing minor interpretive duties.
