Apartment Hunting in Upstate NY

Sign in to disble this ad
I've searched several apartment locator sites, like Apartments.com and can only find apartments in the Burlington, VT or south of Plattsburgh, NY. I'm looking for an apartment anywhere from Plattsburgh to Rouses Point, NY. Apartments near Rouses Point, NY on the VT side of the border would work fine as well. Any TBers from (or familiar with) that area please let me know of any apartments in the area. I realize that not all apartment owners use the web to advertise. I will also start calling local real estate agents in the area as well.

Thanks!

Mike

Apartments are out of season in NY State, so hunting them is currently a no-no.

I'm using a bow! I thought bow hunting was in season up there?

EASY! No work here in Hawaii + A good paying job prospect in upstate New York = moving.

I have a final interview sometime next week for a position with a pharmaceutical company in the area.

Well, good luck. Just remember, just because it's greener on the other side doesn't mean it's safe to touch it.

When I lived in the DC area there were some people in the neighborhood that were in the pharmaceutical industry.

Mike - I was stationed at Plattsburgh AFB for two years (it's since closed) so I'm familiar with the area. I found these apartment ads at the Press Republican website (local newspaper.)

http://www.zwire.com/site/index.cfm?...ordsPerPage=10

Also, did you check out the East Oval Estates? Those are what used to be Officers' Quarters on PBurg AFB. They are very nice and are considered historical structures. Big, brick structures, I believe they were built in the 1800s but have been very well maintained. They have wood floors, fireplaces etc. If they are in your price range and you like old historical locations you might go for them.

Coming from Hawaii I'd say you're in for a big shock weather wise. Just make sure you go for the warmest clothes available and keep your car in tip-top condition. Unlike other places where you can just muddle through you definitely have to dress for the weather. I've seen -40F with a -60F windchill up there!

If you can find an apartment in Morrisonville that would also be a good choice. It's right next to Pburg and is actually closer to I87 than many locations in Pburg. I87 runs straight from Pburg up towards Rouse's Point - if you live in Pburg or Morrisonville I assume that will be your commute. I also noticed one of the above apartments linked above is in Chazy - that's halfway between Pburg and Rouse's Point. Good choice, I'd guess.

Good luck!

Thanks for the link and the heads up.

I was born and raised in New England. I was also stationed at Loring AFB in the winter. I went skying on the base's sky slope in -20 degree weather.

My 2007 Ford Mustang will have to be winterized and given a new set of all-weather radials suitable for snow and ice.

I should know by the end of next week if I'm moving there.

Again,

Thanks!

Mike

EDIT:

WOW! Apartments over there are dirt cheap! I was paying $1000/ month for a small Studio Apt in Honolulu a few years ago. They go for $1200/ mo. now.
