As some of you guys have noticed from me being on TalkBass nearly all hours of the day, I'm on my iPhone constantly. As a result, my battery life is suffering badly. I was down to about 3 hours of use per battery charge and that's with the backlight almost all the way off. So, I scheduled an appointment at the Apple store to get my battery replaced. I was expecting to pay about $100 for a new battery.

I went down there for my appointment yesterday, and was immediately greeted by an employee, who looked up my appointment and got another employee to help me. No waiting at all!

She plugged my iPhone into the computer and pulled up my usage statistics, which verified that my best charge over the last two weeks was about 3 hours 40 minutes, and it said that that was with a 90% charge remaining or something, so the battery was definitely screwed up.
It turns out that my iPhone was still under warranty, so they replaced the whole phone for free!

She went back and got me a brand new iPhone, swapped the SIM cards, and then had me sign the paperwork to allow them to erase all the data from my old one.

I got home and hooked up to iTunes, and was able to load the new iPhone up with a backup I had of my old one. All my pictures and settings went right back to the way they were, it even kept track of the last numbers I had on the calculator, and the 26 minute timer I usually have set for when I cook pizza.

Apple's customer service (at least at the Apple store) is awesome!

DiGiorno Rising Crust pizza, 400 degrees for 26 minutes.
Best store-bought pizza I've tried so far.

Apple Store has customer service streamlined and personal, they really kick ass. They all seem to WANT to be there. They're all enthusiasts and always helpful.
I like the fact you don't have to go to a register to pay but you can pay via credit by their handhelds, freaking brilliant.

This was the first time I have ever been to an Apple store, because I'm a Windows guy, (Aside from my iPhone..) but yeah, that pretty much describes my experience.
Seems like a fun place to work, actually.

I see you're from SoCal.
Do you go to the one at the Manhattan Village mall?

I like the "no register" thing. Just whip out your CC anywhere in the store, sign and walk out with your stuff. Very cool...as it should be at the Apple store.

My one Apple store experience related to customer service was this: I attempted to pay for something (good earbuds, I think--this was a few years ago) with my credit card. Well, once in a great while, my card company (my Visa is through my credit union) doesn't respond the first time the card is swiped and this was one of those times.

I was told--seriously--that the store would not try the card a second time, that's their policy. (I've never heard of this anywhere else, before or since.) I had to use my debit card. Not a huge deal for me, but what a stupid policy.

On the other hand, my first iPod lasted nearly five years. So no complaints there.

My wife had an Apple photobook made from Aperture and it came back a bit dark for her liking. She sent an email to Apple about it. They refunded her the cost of the book (about $100), and also provided a log list of tools and procedure to help get a better result the next time. The next book she got looked amazing.

Also, my friends had their wedding albums printed by Apple (3 books). When they came back one of the pages was screwed up, and not by Apple. They refunded all 3 books and reprinted them.

That is quality customer service.
