It is, however, appropriate to break check them if they're not wearing their seat belt.

Only if it's with a stick no greater in width than your thumb.

my parents beat the hell out of me every chance they got regardless where we were. Believe me, when I was little I gave them more than enough opportunities.

I see nothing wrong with it if there is legitimate reason behind it. I think was gets people the most is the people who are so high up on their horse they have to tell other people how to raise their children.

If anything I think more parents should beat their kids. It builds fear and makes kids listen. that Time Out crap is Bullsh*t

If a brat was being a brat in a store, and the parent gave em a swift smack, I'd applaud them. Cuz America's getting soft, and they didn't raise a huge political debate when my parents cracked me across the ass with a belt or switch from the bush in the back yard.

When kids are rotten, they deserve to get it. Time outs, grounding, taking away the Xbox... BAH.

But you introduce some PAIN.... they remember. And they learn. Fast.

Yes.

Whenever they're rotten, wherever they're rotten, give em the business.

Kids will be brats anywhere. There's no such thing as not disciplining a child.

its never appropriate to hit a child.

disciplining a child is appropriate. never call it hitting.

hitting sounds like abuse, discipline sounds like parenting.

never hit a child uner no circumstances, if they are doing something that deserves hitting is because the parent already failed in raising the child, is their fault, not the childs.

I think hitting in public should be allowed for all ages. If an old man is mouthing off about your wifes tits...hit him 1 time in the dentures and he will think twice about it the second time: if he can remember

I think that "hitting" as in hitting in the face or with objects is not cool. However, if the parent is not angry and the kid will not act appropriately Positive Punishment is a useful tool.

We lived on a busy street when I was a kid. 4 lanes, double yellow, 40mph zone. My older friends and I were throwing boxes of candy into the street to for some reason and running after them. My fater came home, saw me, asked them to leave and took me inside. Then he let me sit for 20 min and think about it. And then he spanked me. I don't remember if it was hard or not. I don;t even remember if it was a belt. After that I learned my lesson. I was a very well behaved child (what happened you ask ).

Hitting a child in anger = NO NO
Re enforcing boundaries in an effort to help your child obtain better chances for survival =PRICELESS

Hittings not good, but what you gonna do?

Ultimately the only recourse of punishment you have is superior physical force. All other (usually better) forms of punishment only work because they're backup up by the threat of physical enforcement.

Kids should be forced to wear remote controlled shock collars. It should be mandatory until they are 12ish--like the use of car seats. The frequency to set the collars off should be universal. Everyone's cell phone should double as a shock collar remote control.

After all, "it takes a village" to raise kids nowadays.

I always chuckle a little bit when I see kids with those telephone cord-style leashes on...

This is funny. I was in the store the other day looking for Transformers action figures for the kids. Yeah.... uhhh, the kids. This cute lady starts having her son throw a fit about a toy she took away from him and put back on the shelf. The kid was really throwing a tantum. Screaming, yelling, carrying on... nightmarish stuff, really.

She was trying to talk sense into the kid. He was about 4, I think. Coulda been ended real quick with a strategic swat. It went on for the 5 minutes that I continued looking through the toys, and I still heard the kid blurting stuff for a minute as I walked to a different department.

Hit those kids.

My kids are pretty good. I haven't had to spank them for a long time. They are 11, 10, and 6 (all boys). But they know that if they don't heed the first warning, a spanking is the next step. It's not like I had to continually beat them or anything of the sort. I just had to set rules, and not faulter in the administration of those rules. It's not that hard, and it doesn't take years of spankings to get the foundation in place.
