Reports are pretty mixed right now, some are reporting the congresswoman as dead, others are reporting that she is in surgery. I'm pretty sure there are about 5 casualties at this point... a real shame.

The latest couple of reports I have read say five are reported dead, the congresswoman is still in surgery in critical condition and was the first one shot. If that last bit is true, that leads me to believe she was indeed the primary target.

I don't want to speak too soon, but given the recent goings on it Arizona, I wouldn't be surprised if it was an assassination attempt.

I read that, in a sad ironic twist (if it's true), this congresswoman featured on another persons "lock and load" list published on their webpage with a bullseye on their congressional race. Has that been confirmed? I hope it's not a political assassination. Seems like dangerous imagery to be playing around with and something which may turn out to be a horrible choice.

I hate to say it but I am not that surprised that something like this happened. This past election was purposely run on hate and with the way things are right now, economy etc., winding up already upset people is never a good move.

Unfortunately I don't see this as being a isolated incident either. There are so many that have the "nothing to live for" or maybe more of a "nothing will change unless something drastic is done" attitude, that this will happen again and possibly worse.

I am a little surprised that they haven't given out any information about the shooter yet.

Not to make light of this situation in any way, but I can't wait to hear what the "conspiracy theorists" make out of this shooting?

I hope for a full recovery for all the survivors.

A Federal District Court judge appointed by George Bush one was among those killed. It appears that the Congresswomen is going to survive. I'm not going to judge it politically because there are way to many possible motives on both sides of the spectrum including immigration, health care, gun control, etc.
She didn't tow the line for either side on these issues and the judge was on the opposite side of the spectrum. Who knows, he might have been the real target. Either way it's a real tragedy.

Too true...... This won't be the last. When a group of "true believers" gets all wound up on too much Beck/Limbaugh/Hannity there are bound to be a couple that can make a case for murder being a reasoned response.
