Arizona's Wallow wildfire

I've not been keeping up with this as much as I should have been so I decided to look up a info this evening.

HOLY. CRAP. I'm seeing reports as high as 700 square miles burned with only 6% contained and as many as 7,500 evacuated. Considering the size of this burn and the total number of evacuations, it's extremely fortunate that so few structures have burned.

THIS video from a plane flying over really impressed me, as did THIS satellite comparison.

I know one group of people who were planning to hike this area in the fall, so they're changing plans to head to Colorado instead. All these natural disasters so early in the year have me a bit nervous about this year's hurricane season.

Yup that fire is huge. There are also two other significant fires down in Southern AZ right now along with the multitude of small fires that are the usual fare this time of year. Once it starts raining there will be major runoff and floods too.

The Wallow Fire has also been burying some places up in CO under quite the blanket of smoke from what I hear. The smallest of the three fires (the Murphy Fire I think) has been sending a lot of smoke into Tucson and surrounding areas.

AZ needs at least some rain soon.

One of the smaller fires is threatening my hometown. The monument fire is zero percent contained and has already burned several thousand acres. Scary stuff - my mom still lives there.

If only they could pipe a few billion gallons of water we've got flooding the heartland right now, down to AZ in some big-ass hoses and get that thing put out. It would be a win-win.

Hope she and everyone else comes through it OK. Things have surely been getting more intense in the Southeast part of AZ.

Hundreds of homes evacuated near SV

Yeah, Sierra Vista is where I grew up and where my Mom still lives. I'm worried about them....
