The UK's legal system is a bit wonky at times IMO. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if this vid (YouTube - Carl Douglas - Kung fu fighting(original)) is considered racist by the pertinent law? Great bassline, btw and the tune is megafun to play in 7/8.

The lyrics are a bit goofy but there's nothing really offensive in there. I mean, we're talking about Kung Fu. The song's not called Everybody Was Building Railroads or Everybody Was Doing Laundry.

Now, if they were pointing at him and making "Chinese eyes" while they were playing it, then maybe. But geez, I thought we were overly PC in the states. Can Bowie sing China Girl?

One of the most nonsensical things I've ever heard.

BEWARE THE "THOUGHT POLICE"!

Now if you sing a song and someone THINKS you might be making a racist statement you can be arrested because you absolutely MUST LIKE EVERYONE!

Who ever heard of such an absurd thing? Utter nonsense! Guess what, folks. You DON'T have to like everyone and you DON'T have to be tolerant of everything. There is NO possible way to control people's thoughts and legislate morality. It's just stupid.

Local pop hiphop dude got arrested and charged with "inciting riot" for performing "#@!* the Police" cover of some gangster rapper, when the cops were checking out the bar. Stupid stupid stupid. Thin skinned cops and dumbarse singer make bad company.

The title of this thread alone is quite hilarious.

The police are following procedure. Nothing strange about that, except maybe the fact that there are enough officers on duty for this to be a priority issue.

The offended individual, on the other hand... Could do with a skin transplant.

Unless the song in question is made illegal, I strongly doubt there is a case to be made. But the stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me.

I was going to post something terribly sarcastic here. But instead I'll just laugh at the stupidity of todays society. Unfortunately, we're all stuck living in it :/

Bingo. FWIW the police have said that they won't be charging the singer and that, as should be the case, anyone is entitled to make a report to the police if they feel they have been the victim of a crime. The police's job is to investigate the crime and determine whether there is sufficient evidence to charge someone. I suspect something is being left out of the story with regards to why the singer was arrested rather than interviewed at the place where the police met him. However, it other just seems like the police where doing their job and someone needs to grow a thicker skin.

Thin skin is not the problem. It's the fact there is a law that allows one person to be arrested because another has a thin skin.

Kung Fu Fighting is assault? I guess that makes I Want To Hold Your Hand sexual harassment.

Well, I suspect there is a case of the police not wanting to be accused of willfully ignoring suspected racism and thus being racist themselves.

However, I'm not entirely convinced that he was in fact "arrested". Maybe just "brought in for questioning".

Seems to have sweet and sour connotations there.
