Aspergers club commence.

Alright I`m assuming there`s a quite a few of us around here. So I think we should make our numbers be seen.

If you have aspergers simply state it so.

I always wondered why I seemed to have so many autistic traits when I was clearly not autistic. Two of my three children were born before Aspergers was in the diagnostic manual but were eventually diagnosed. One of my sisters has a son that is severely autistic.

So, my family has no doubts that i am an Aspie and neither do I, although I have never gone to a neurologist to make it official.

Never verified, but I think it's quite likely.

I was diagnosed years ago.

I'm fairly open to private message-based discussion.

I also have 2 nephews with autism. Thankfully, they communicate well all things considered, and have the BEST mother in the world.

Two of my sons were diagnosed with PDD NOS, which in some ways is kind of a silly diagnosis...sort of like a way of saying "yeah, something's a bit off but we don't know what else to call it.." Both are absolutely fine despite the label.
As for me, I've never been diagnosed with anything specifically as I never been to a professional to even begin to try to figure it all out, but I know there's something there 100%. Maybe Asperger's, maybe like two of my kids, it's a "kinda/sorta/almost but not quite" thing. I just don't know but there's no doubt in my mind.

For those who have had the diagnosis of Asperger's - and I apologize if this comes across as an odd question - how were you diagnosed? Was it later in life or was it as a child, etc.

We noticed during interviews about my son (verified aspergers) that so many of the symptoms applied to me. I've just learned to give people what they expect without ever knowing why.
I worry about what job my son might get - so few people understand.

That's similar to my experience. When my oldest son was being evaluated it was mind-boggling at how much of what was being said about him applied to me.
The crappy thing was that when I was younger, this stuff really didn't pop up much in the minds of teachers, (this was during the late 60's through 70's) it just wasn't a thing that they thought about. So where in the case of my oldest son, we worked carefully and deliberately with him, in my case it was beat/punished out of me, as though it was all "bad", just a lot of negative type reinforcement. It made it a crappy experience!

I'm 49 FWIW, No one was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome until the early 90's...now, I think they are just throwing it in as high-functioning autism, which to me, seems like an insult to children and adults who struggle with autism daily.

My kindergarten teacher 1959-60 made extensive notes about me because I liked to play by myself. She tagged me as a sociopath. On that basis I was put in the special school district for first grade. But after a week I was transferred back to the regular school. I was disappointed as the "special" school was stimulating and well run.

Sociopath just based on that alone.? That would be laughable if it didn't lead to you being bounced between schools, sheesh!
I was pulled out of kindergarten for similar reasons but was put instead into catholic school and stayed there for the next 12 years .
Nah, it wasn't too bad I guess. I think they were top notch in teaching, but they had nooooo f-ing clue how to treat a kid with a developmental disorder of any sort.

My best friend had a similar experience in Catholic school. They wouldn't try to work with him or work around his challenges, and he really suffered. He had to switch to a different school, ultimately.

Make are numbers be noticed.

Honestly who knows.

To be honest it's just nice that were not all alone.

I tried finding message boards for it, however the main contender seems to be dominated by mopey mopey people.

Also it's important that we see music as something were born for if that makes sense.
