Assisted Suicide on TV? Should this be shown or condemned?

I'm honestly not sure what to think here. I cannot blame him for wanting to die with dignity before his illness got even worse, but to televise it? Ugh, I dunno..

Ive seen ppl dying on the news at gunfights, corpses of dead ppl by the highway and havent had trouble with it, i mean life happens to end that way sometimes.

But if you ask me profiting on someone elses dead, even for a mercyful dead, is way too much.

This acclaimed movie is about a quadriplegic guy that, in early 1998, drank a glass of potassium cyanide in front of a camera. It was shown by all TV news at the time, just up to the moment when he drinks the poison. I clearly remember that view and still shocks me.

Here's the movie trailer.

I don't know. It just seems to me that a person's death, especially in a controlled environment by his own hands is simply an intimate moment to be shared with close family members and friends. If it's made public, that suddenly transforms into an emotionally charged public statement. I'm not sure where I stand on the ethics of that. I'm definitely in favor of having the option for euthanasia, and if you think about it, it's already kind of legal provided it's private, it's between you, your family and your doctor. It's not until you go public and make a big deal about it, does it land you in hot water.
