A fun-filled day of...ATLATL THROWING!
For those of you not familiar with the atlatl, here is a wikipedia article that describes it well:

For the past few years, the Ohio Atlatl Association (OAA) has been setting up a demonstration of and competition with atlatls. This year, as in 2009, we setup on the old ball diamond across from the campgrounds. The weather was essentially perfect. We had roughly 30 people cycle through and some of them threw official OAA scores. We have a line of loaner gear we set out for people to try.
We even have smaller sizes for the wee little throwers.
That is my son, Xavier, demonstrating how to pull your pants up while throwing, proving that he can multitask. Even the wee ones are encouraged to try and throw for an official OAA score. The distances for the kids are shorter.
My youngest, Gideon, wasn't interested in throwing, but did enjoy petting Honey Pot.
My best shot of the day was hitting the X from 25 meters.
I am always fascinated to try and get the darts coming off the atlatl to show what the dart does. Here is a prime example of the deformation that occurs during the initial launch of the dart.
And this was just day 1! We go back tomorrow (Sunday) for more fun an excitement.
