All of you, individually, need to find the person most responsible for brewing the St. Sebastiaan abbey ales and kiss him on the mouth. Now.

Y'all need to acquire some McChouffe.
Or some Ops-Ale if you are not a heavy drinker.
Duvel is as good as always on a hot summer's day.
Although my fridge is usually filled with Jupiler Blue.
But these days I am in the holiday spirit with Dubbel Palm.
I am really, REALLY getting in the holiday spirit... with Dubbel Palm.
To my stateside friends: you can keep drinking Budweiser and say you are drinking Belgian beer.
That's legally acceptable. Quote:

Appearantly there is something as "Belgian waffles" and it's popular in the US. Quote:

Last time I was there, my friends and I showed I showed two nice ladies from Sacramento where to find the best beer in Bruges (the proprietors brew their own Trippel stuff right there at the premises). VERY strong - about 12 or 13% ABV - but still beautifully drinkable. Gotta be my favourite beer anywhere in the world. http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel..._Bar-BR-1.html
Aaah. I need another Belgium trip, and soon.

Seeing as how multiple offerings from Chimay and St. Sebastiaan are currently battling for my evening dollars, I'm curious as to how these beers are regarded there. As highly as the waffles, or less so?

P.S. Your waffles aren't bad, either. | I agree.
In fact, I have yet to find a shabby Belgian ale... And I have a very diversified supplier.

Mike | Beer is always higher rated than waffles.
I know there is no such thing as a stupid question, but jeez.
No... I get in on the waffles.
It's just funny cause it's not that popular around here (although everyone likes them too)... it's never considered as a recipe that we are proud to share with the world.
It's more like meh.
We call them "Brusselse wafels" around here and I gues in Brussels they just call them waffles. (That last one is not true. )
These wafels are less common around here than in the US appearantly. That's what I often find strange.
"Brusselse wafels" are tend to be offered here in more high class taverns, or from street vendors at touristic places.
Not in a quick-fastfood-breakfast places. (The "curryroll" is very popular in gas-stations as breakfast... where we get our breakfast... and by we I mean the bachelors that love junkfood.)
To clarify, the average Belgian is not that aware of the more prestigious beers. It's like everywhere in the world... there is a small percentage of people that are interested in beer... all the different kinds and where the best breweries are.
That's like assuming the average Frenchman knows a lot about wine.
What is highly regarded here among beer connaiseurs are mostly the real trappists off course. (there are only 5 or 6 "real" trappists.)
I don't recall ever drinking St. Sebastiaan.
But I absolutely love Chimay. Blue Chimay to be precise.
Chimay is rather common while St. Sebastiaan isn't. (around here, stores and bars) |
