I am planning a road trip to the south with a friend, and we are deciding whether to stay in Huntsville or Birmingham on Friday night. Any thoughts on the matter? Know of any shows (in any genres) worth attending? Legendary food? Must visit bars?
I'm looking for places authentically southern, if possible. Recommendations for so-called hipster bars are OK, but there are tons of those around.

Looks like there will be an interesting show at the Workplay Theatre. I assume y'all are heading down I-65 if you're looking at Huntsville vs. Birmingham?

There are a lot of local small chain resteraunts (Golden Rule, Full Moon, Dreamland, Jim and Nicks) and they are all fine but not like some of the hole in the wall places I like. |

when you're driving 565 into town look for the watertower at the Greenbrier exit, drive north a couple miles to the OLD Greenbrier BBQ, find your way in and enjoy the great cookin' that Miss Bobby and team have prepared for you. Pass on being tempted to stop by the NEW Greenbrier restaurant close by the freeway exit
all the best,
