Attn Computer Guys: Win XP, SP3 issues

Would appreciate some help folks.

Have recently installed the SP3 update and, since then, I'm unable to sign in to MSN Explorer. Windows reports that something may be wrong with their server, or my internet connection.

I can't speak for them, but my connection is a good as it was before SP3 as far as I know.

It's worth adding that others who have MSN accounts on this PC can't sign in either. I've disabled the internet security package: no different. I've not tried signing in on another PC cos I don't have access to another! Finally, we can all sign into (say) Hotmail and other Microsoft services via the Microsoft Homepage.

Of course it may not be connect to installing SP3. I've not tried System Restore prior to SP3. I don't know how to get 'inside' MSN Explorer to check settings.

Wisdom appreciated.

Ta.

John

I vaguely remember reading something about SP3 causing problems when using certain firewalls. Not sure if it will help in your case, but try disabling (you might have to uninstall) your firewall and see if you can sign in.

If that's the problem, I have no idea if reinstalling the firewall will result in the same problems again or not.

There were some rumblings about ZoneAlarm and McAfee having issues with subsequent patches that followed SP3.

If you had either you'll want to remove them (anti-virus/firewall), get all the latest updates (Win XP) and then re-install them (Anti-virus/firewall)... I think...

I posted about this, as I had the same problem.

If you have it turn off Zonealarm, as it conflicts with windows last security update. Switch on windows firewall instead.

The McAfee issue I had was something to do with another firewall I downloaded and, to the best of my knowledge, not to do with the security update. However, I would recomend you find and download a file called MCPR.exe (McAfee Consumer Product Removal - http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocumen...107083&lc=1033) if you have had McAfee products on your system at some point and don't use them anymore. a lot of Operating System packages, like the one I got with my computer, come with a trial.

edit: Here's the thread I made when I had the problem: Forking Microsoft!!
