It's called ToneMatrix, it was modeled after yamaha's Tenori-On device. Fun toy to play with online. The actual Tenori-On has much more functionality to it, but at $699.99 and $999.99 for each of the 2 models, can be quite pricey.

Now what might make for a fun timewaster at home is to record the output of the tonematrix, loop it, and record yourself playing bass along with it (follow up with guitar or drums if you can play either of those), and see what you get.... and then share the mp3's for fun.
