AutoCAD 2011

has anyone seen this yet? it's...kinda amazing. I like how they integrated the grid and the drawing background into one thing. Given that my experinces with autoCAD have been limited at best, as I've only done 2D stuff, but this new release looks fun.

I've been learning Autocad 2009 for the last two weeks and am amazed with the possibilities. 2011 must be ridiculous...

It's cool but for me MasterCam is what I need.

I use the 2D form of AutoCADD 2010 and it is fantastic. I haven't gotten into any of the 3D stuff yet, so this update doesn't do much for me, but it looks cool.

Meh, it hasn't been foisted upon me yet but I'm sure it will be eventually. Every year they come out with a new version that's supposed to do all these fancy things but they never work right. They often manage to break things that worked well in previous versions.

IMO, 2006 was nearly perfect. I haven't cared much for any of the versions since then.

Haven't used AutoCAD since (I think) R11 on a 286.

I'm using Alibre Design right now for my mechanical tinkerings. It's somewhat like a cheap-and-cheerful Solidworks clone - bit rough round the edges but pretty capable.

2010 is much nicer than any of the other versions that I have used in the past. Much better than 2005, which was the last version that I used.

Has it got truss and lighting fixture libraries yet? I switched to VectorWorks seven or eight years ago because they had all this stuff available where in AutoCAD I was spending a huge amount of time building it.

I know Revit has lighting fixtures, not sure about AutoCAD, but I assume it does.

Mastercam is great. I have over 10 years experience with it.

Yes. Plus they have made importing stuff from one drawing to another a simple drag and drop. I have one drawing made up with every layer, text styles ect in it and I just drag and drop when I need something new. Plus you can do that with just about anything in a drawing. Made something cool in a drawing last week that you want in a new drawing? Takes about 7 seconds to do.

Inventor and solidworks are much better for 3D. I am on solidworks 2010 and it is great. If you are running FEA the models dump right in.

Ha! In the early 80's, I was designing machinery on Autocad 2.1! It was the latest and greatest. Now, it's like drawing on an Etch-a-Sketch.

Ha! I'll one up you. In the early 80's I was still on the drafting table!
