He is recruited to travel light years to the human outpost on Pandora, where a corporate consortium is mining a rare mineral that is the key to solving Earth's energy crisis. Because Pandora's atmosphere is toxic, they have created the Avatar Program, in which human "drivers" have their consciousness linked to an avatar, a remotely-controlled biological body that can survive in the lethal air. These avatars are genetically engineered hybrids of human DNA mixed with DNA from the natives of Pandora... the Na'vi. Reborn in his avatar form, Jake can walk again. He is given a mission to infiltrate the Na'vi, who have become a major obstacle to mining the precious ore. But a beautiful Na'vi female, Neytiri, saves Jake's life, and this changes everything. Jake is taken in by her clan, and learns to become one of them, which involves many tests and adventures. As Jake's relationship with his reluctant teacher Neytiri deepens, he learns to respect the Na'vi way and finally takes his place among them. Soon he will face the ultimate test as he leads them in an epic battle that will decide the fate of an entire world. (20th Century Fox)

Its incredible visually, and definitely not one to wait for the DVD. I haven't felt the same way about a movie since I saw Star Wars when I was a real little kid. |

edit: let me clarify: This is not a movie that you need to understand going in. Visuals and blue people don't do it justice, period. No trailer is going to do it justice, and no plot summary is going to help with that. It is an experience, the same way Jaws or Star Wars as a young child are experiences that cannot be replicated, quantified, or measured in any form.
At the best of times, film transcends description, and delivers an experience that is much much more than the sum of its parts, and manages to work over any flaws it might have. Avatar is one of those movies.

-Mike | If I had siblings that could get $230 million budgets for films, I wouldn't use a pseudonym on a bass website.
But, for what its worth, I'm a big movie buff, and for credibility's sake: I've been a film reviewer, written a couple of screenplays, and judged exactly one film festival. Its a good flick, do yourself a favor and check it out. -James Cameron
