puts an awful lot of pressure on him. I mean, what if he cannot grow facial hair? it would be sad.

He'd be doomed to a life of "marriages of convenience" for closeted lesbians.

I think a last name is needed to really appreciate the impact of a name. We always hear the first and last name during roll-call on the first day of junior high gym class.

We're actually thinking Edsel Beard Dooley right now...Beard as a middle name.

I worked with a young lady who named her son Brock. I still hate that name. Brock isn't a name, it's onomatopoeia. It's what might pop up above the Riddler's head if he were getting punched by Batman. It's the sound a dog makes when he's barfing on a chicken bone.

Plus, I'm wary of names that are monosyllabic and also have harsh consonants... because they're almost TOO macho. Names that are so masculine they sound like they're trying to be masculine actually wind up sounding gay. (Bruce, Butch, etc.) If you name your kid Brock, he's gonna be a leather queen, I guarantee it.

Anyway... um... Beard, huh? I'll... get back to you on that..

Beard is Scandinavian or something similar to that...maybe Danish or Finnish...

...doesn't change anyone's opinion does it?

Joking aside, you could pull it off if you really like it. Go for it!

Seriously. What do you envision for this child in later life, especially during his school years? What will be the effect of the inevitable ridicule he will get from his peers during his formative years? Edsel is the name of an arguably ugly, tragically-failed car brand (despite also being a son of Henry Ford). Beard is facial hair. Whether it's Scandinavian or not, it still means ugly car facial hair in English. Why would you do that?

That said, I wanted to name our daughter Pheasant LaWanthwa, which means beautiful bird soul sister. I was outvoted.

I'd think his name was spelt Baird (after John Logie Baird, perhaps?). But Beard is just plain weird.

Yeah, that's great: DED. Dudley Dooley? Edsel? Beard?!!! I'm calling the name police! Seriously - these are all pretty awful suggestions.
