Back in Orange County... what to do here?

Sign in to disble this ad
Here for the next three days. Work-related stuff in Los Alamitos/Cypress.

Spent some time here in SoCal the late 80s - mid 90s when my parents lived in Irvine, and liked it a lot. Sadly, It's been so long since I've been back here that I don't really know what to do in the evenings (e.g. non-touristy restaurants, bars, music scene)

Can any OC TBers help me out?

That is all.

don't know much about the Los Alamitos area, I'm afraid. If you felt like taking a drive up to Hollywood, there's plenty of music venues and cool shops there.

I've only been here for a brief time, so my experience is quite limited. And I can't think of a whole lot in Los Alamitos/Cypress besides chains and touristy places, unfortunately. But here are a few recommendations:

- I've been to The Auld Dubliner in Irvine; it's a great Irish pub, and there's usually a good local band playing.
- Ye Olde Ship is an, English Fish & Chips/Pub that I've heard good things about. It's on 17th Street in Santa Ana.
- This is more of a lunch thing, but the Mad Greek is a great little restaurant in Stanton. I used to go there at least once a week for lunch when I worked on Beach Blvd. Up and down that street, I'm sure you will find some sort of entertainment as well.
- Tustin Brewing Company is a local hangout. Resaurant/Brewery. They've got some great local beers, or so I've heard.

I'm sure Maki will chime in at some point. He should have something good for you

Hey, James. I work near there. How long you in town for? Let's hook up for a beer or something. If you want some good grubs (although I haven't been there in awhile) there's cafe hiro. It's off Katella (and I believe the cross street is valley view). It's Japanese Italian food. They have a great 7 course meal that's really good. I can't remember is the races are running right now, but you could also go to the Los Alamitos race track for some fun. I don't usually grab beers in that area, because I like to drink them closer to home. Maybe you could roll down by my neck of the woods in Huntington Beach. It's about a 15-20 min drive from there.

I'll PM you my phone #.

You could search high and low for Kelly Rowan and Mischa Barton.

Too bad they're only running races on the weekends right now, since I'm really close to the track. My hotel is about a 10 minute walk from Katella and Valley View. Might check out Cafe Hiro.

If a meet-up is feasible, let's pull the trigger on that if we can.

For sure. I just have to check on which day works best for me tomorrow or wednesday.

"Back in Orange County... what to do here?"

Leave, as quickly as possible.

At least, that is what I'd be doing.

Good advice. I wish more people would listen.

Not really the "happening" part of OC. House of Blues Anaheim isn't too far from there. Definitely in a touristy location though.

Lets see, what else . . . a hair cut in Seal Beach, maybe? There's some cool bars, etc on Main st. and its not a long haul from Los Al.

We also tell shark stories to keep the crowd in the line up down.

Eh.... OC might be palatable if you got rid of the majority of the people.
