Well, I thought I had a run-of-the-mill broken wrist, but apparently things are a bit more complicated than that. I just got back from the fracture clinic - turns out I have something called Kienbock's Disease. Never knew anything about it before! But a serious fall at work last week has aggravated the problem with the bones in my wrist and caused further damage. That fits in exactly with what it says here. Notice the comment at the bottom: Quote: |
If it's your personality, when people ask if you have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, you can always respond "I wish! That's a piece of cake compared to this."
| http://darkerblue.kienbock.com/newdx.html I can't say I'm overjoyed with this. But people get worse news at the hospital, I suppose. Anyway, in a cast for another 3 weeks, possibly followed by physio and surgery. Yippee! Bill

I hope that you develop ways to cope with this that allow you full creative and musical expression and freedom from pain.

You might be getting screwed. I'd get a second opinion and a good lawyer. |

If Bill Clements can play with one hand, and Django Reinhardt can make the music he could with fused fingers on his fretting hand, any of us can beat these things. Stay positive. Healing will take a long time, but that's OK. You will beat this. We are all pulling for you here!

I hope it's not as bad as it makes out anyway - all the best Bill!

Chances are, given Bill's profession, he will have insurance that would cover it even if it was pre-existing. Even if he didn't, the NHS woudl take care fo the medical issues and I am pretty sure his workplace would take care of the rest (his profession has quite a decent union in the UK).

Around here, it's a way of life. And one that it looks more and more like we're going to be stuck with for a long time. |

That's for other folks to decide.
Mark is also correct in his assumption that I'll let my union handle my interests in this.
Thanks for the goodwill message, guys, genuinely appreciated here.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Atlanta | | | i have wrist problems too, started by working at Gibson guitars...
accelerated by being in 2 bands, gigging 5+ a month, and 3 practices a week, and a bowling league...
i had carpal tunnel and tendonitis.... those were easy, but it also seems like i've lost some cartilage in my wrist. I have to pop it once or twice a week or it will ache real bad... Sometimes if I pick something up just the wrong way, it will shoot a splitting pain right up my arm...not fun. luckily it rarely happens anymore.
funny though, cause as soon as I quit Gibson, the problems stopped... but of course i was screwed up by then...
