Do we have any here on TB?
I'm thinking about trying to teach myself how to play. I've always loved the sound and have been fascinated by them. However, I know absolutely nothing about them. I was thinking about buying some bagpipes at around $200 from: http://www.larkinthemorning.com.
What do you think? Should I shell out $200 and give it a shot? I figure it can't be TOO hard. |

My neighbor/teacher at the high school that I went to plays, gets really annoying when he practices in his back yard, but was cool with he played at official events at school, like when we had politicians come and speak and what not.

lowsound | Hmmmm, that's not good, considering I have never played a wind instrument before, only stringed. |

Don't worry about not having played a wind instrument before... they're unlike any other instrument you blow into. You're just blowing into it to keep the bag inflated, the actual work is done by exerting pressure on the bag by your arm.
Played well, they're impressive... But you will sound like an asthmatic wildcat being run over by a truck. For at least the first few years. |

I have that much at home - haven't gotten around to messing with it. But lessons will certainly be needed early on... http://www.bagpipejourney.com/articl...f_taught.shtml

You can get sick of the pipes quite quickly
Still think they are cool, as long as used in the right situation.
Random note: One of the locals at the pub i used to work at was the queen mothers bag pipe player

and yes, your neighbors will hear everything.
