Band of Brothers vs. The Pacific (TV mini-series)

I'm a huge WWII nut and have enjoyed these two mini series a whole lot! I just finished watching The Pacific and I was blown away by the depth, realism and intensity in it. It felt really real, and I think it gives a pretty good picture on what it was like being a soldier at that time and place. Not that Band of Brothers is bad at all, I've watched it through 3 times and still can't get enough of it. I do prefer The Pacific however because it covers more aspects of the war than Band Of Brothers did, I feel. In The Pacific we have 3 very different main characters and follow them through the war, only a few times do their paths cross, where Band Of Brothers is more of a group's journey through a shared experience.

So which one do you prefer of the two and why?

Haven't seen the Pacific yet since I don't get HBO. The Pacific DVD set is on my short list this holiday season.

Personally, I've always been fascinated by World Ware II in general, but really concentrated on the war in Europe. The Pacific theater sort of takes a back seat in my mind since it was pretty much like two separate wars at the same time.

I always found the pacific theater to be more interesting, most likely because I don't know as much about it because in school all I learned was "we beat Hitler" lol. So I studied WW2 and found out all the Europe stuff, but I really got into the Pacific fighting.
The Pacific was great, really great story telling. And the old footage from the fighting is amazing to watch, along with the veterans commentaries.

I prefer Band of Brothers, but only because I felt that The Pacific, while a brilliant mini-series, just didn't have the depth that Band of Brothers had, IMHO.

And, I do tend to gravitate to stuff related to the ETO, rather then the PTO, but I think that's a family connection more then anything (Grandfather was in the 94th ID, great Uncle a B-24 navigator in the 8th AF).

I've read some fantastic material about the PTO, however, namely:

Black Sheep Squadron by Bruce Gamble
Baa Baa Black Sheep by Greg Boyington
With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge (I enjoyed seeing parts of the book show up in The Pacific)
Fire in the Sky by Eric Bergerud
Aces High by Bill Yenne
