Band Photos that leave out the band

For example. Bon Jovi. The official photos have Jon, Richie, Tico and that keyboard guy but leave out Hugh McDonald who has been with him for a while now.

I realize that the 4 guys are the "original" members, but doesn't it kinda suck for the other guys. I mean, they're touring, recording, etc. How about some credit?

Then again, I guess you get to tour without the hassle of press day, photo shoots, etc. Maybe it isn't so bad.

What do you guys think? Am I way off base?

Green Day has had the same live lead guitarist for a decade now, and I think he's made exactly one music video appearance in that time frame, and he's not really a "part" of Green Day....they still consider themselves to be a trio. Even live, he's often to the corner of the stage where he isn't that visible.

Hear that?

That's the sound of Hugh McDonald not complaining from atop his mountain of money.

If he doesn't care, why should you?

Same thing with Darryl Jones, will he ever be a full time member? He probably is also too busy counting his money to care.

I don't know that I care so much as it was just an observation. I have no doubt that they are sitting on piles of money.

I do believe Hugh McDonald is "playing with" Bon Jovi, not a member of. I believe him to be a hired gun. Same with Darryl Jones.

Here is a picture from the cover of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 1999 album Echo. Late bassist Howie Epstein is not present in the photo because what I heard from the "Runnin' Down A Dream" documentary is that Howie was doing heroin and was told when the album shoot was. He never made and Tom went ahead with it anyway.

That's how I view myself as well. Not that I'm in their league, but in that all the groups I am in are lead by someone else. They pick songs, book gigs, etc. I show up and play bass. That said I am still considered a "member" of the band for the most part.

I know New Order did this at first with Phil Cunningham (the replacement keys player).
