Bartering

How many of you actively barter for goods or services? I've been doing it informally for years, although I know there are organizations in almost every community set up so people can barter.

I happen to have some skills that are in demand by others, construction and IT, so I find it easy to trade off with people who have the skills I lack that are looking for the skills I have.

It's cool how I can look around my house and remember how I got certain things or how I had certain work done by someone else in exchange for some work I did for them. Then I think about how much better things would be if more people bartered and the world got a little "smaller" than it is now.

I barter all the time. I barter 8 hours of work for $150, five days a week.

Then I take that $$$ to the store and barter various amounts of it for various things that I want.

Ive done a little bartering, gearwise.
- Traded a vintage Morely VOL expression pedal for a Morely Dual Bass Wah
- Traded a Seymour Duncan TweakFuzz for a EHX Big Muff
- Traded a 1x15 (or was it 18?) and a 410 bass cab for some nice wedge monitors for my PA

I got an Ampeg VT-120 head and 4x12 cab for letting my roommate move in for 2 months free.

I know its a guitar head, but it's a start....(I also play guitar as well and this thing WAILS!)

Now I just need someone to come along with a bass rig to unload!

As someone who works in retail, I would just like to state that it drives me frigging insane when people think that our prices are open for negotiation.
