Bass clef necklace: Is this corny? I NEED YOUR INPUT!

Sign in to disble this ad
I found this online the other day and I'm thinking about ordering it. I just don't know if it's corny or not. I'm kind of looking for a new nacklace, since the one I have is a metal guitar pick necklace with an engraved strat that I have turned around so it's plain. Even when I was a guitard I hated the strat engraving, but it was the only one I could find.

I need some input from fellow bass enthusiasts...

Sure. Why not? What the heck's so corny about it?

EDIT: This place has some awesome stuff in it.

Incorrect.

I'm a guy. My avatar is Emma Anzai from Sick Puppies. Sorry to disappoint.

It would be best if you were either:

a) a girl

or

b) a Guido

Otherwise, it's cheesy, IMO.

Well, this is just one opinion, and I submit it with the utmost respect and in the spirit of a balanced response.

I personally think overtly displaying music symbols can be perceived as "corny." Or "showy." Or "pretentious."

It seems to me, you don't see many really accomplished musicians doing this.

Now there are exceptions, and when done cleverly, it can be pretty unique. For example, Paul Gilbert and his use of the F-hole.

But frankly, when I see a bass player who thinks he has to wear the F-clef or have it inked somewhere on his or her body, I think "insecure." Or a show-off. Or an insecure show-off.

Too ornate for a man necklace IMO. If it was made of brushed metal and the little framings removed it would be wearable. Even then there is this whole stigma against men wearing anything besides a wedding ring/religious symbol, a shame IMO.

That's just my .02

My other thought was removing the pendant or just getting the pendant and putting it on the dog tag chain I have my current thing on.

Yeah, this is kind of what I feared. I like wearing a necklace of some sort, since I feel it offsets my chubby face, but I'm not the most religious person in the world, and aside from my grandmother's ring which I wear on a chain with the metal pick thing, and a watch I don't wear jewelry.

I hate the metal pick thing and wanted to replace it with something and I thought of this, but then started wondering if I'd look like a douche.

Every time I see the metal pick necklace, I think, "wow, that's cool, maybe I should get me one."

Then I think about it. And I think about what people will think of me wearing a pick around my neck. It's almost like a desperate cry for attention.

I get my attention not with the icon around my neck, but with the bass guitar around my neck. Much healthier.

Get a bass cleft cut out of a piece of 1/4 inch steel, drill a hole in it and hang it around your neck with a piece of rawhide string. That's a man's neckornament(lace is too girly to use in this instance).

yeah i get this, the only thing is that i kind of like it in combination with the ring, since the ring is usually the first thing people see, but i dont like having just that on there since it's boring

yeah i'm leaning toward just getting a plain metal or silver clef and just sticking it on the dogtag chain i have

well, i am from "lawn guyland" so maybe i've absorbed some guido through osmosis, but i'm korean, so i'm sure that negates some of it.

I wear two chains around my neck. One was a christmas present one year from my grand mother, a nice sterling silver one. The other is an empty dog tag chain that has specific meaning for me. I feel naked without them, so I disagree with the women or guidos thing, as I am most definitely neither, as my penis and comprehension of basic grammar and spelling will demonstrate, respectively.

Bass player displaying bass clef in any form=the absolute opposite of subtle, IMO.
