I am not a bass player but I am a writer developing a male character who plays bass. That makes me a groupie of sorts, I suppose.
Do you think there is a "bass player personality?" If so, did you choose bass because of the personality you were born with? Or, did your personality develop out of the instrument you play and your role in the band? Or, a combination of both?
I appreciate any insight you would be willing to offer, and thanks.
PS -- I've been surfing TalkBass for a couple months now and I have had a great time getting to know the community. |

This is however a generalisation - there are exceptions.

Both types, the nicest guys imaginable and doesn't need a lot of attention, both types born with the clock set an hour too late (not when playing that is...) but with a constant smile on their face saving themselves even in front of the most nervous singer or stirred up drummer.

Won't instigate trouble (well, not as much as everyone else in the band), but always has your back. Understands the that without a foundation, everything else falls down. |

Or maybe an odd combination: a loud mouth who is the center of attention, but when he picks up his bass, it calms him down. Is this character identified by his bass playing, or just something he does on the side?? |

He said "Hey, I hear you play in a band. What instrument?" (and before I could reply) "No - let me guess... you play bass. That is cool."
I wonder what gave it away... .
