This is sorta on topic.
My band rented a practice place which was really a diner which had gone out of business and was emptied of all furniture and appliances. Perfect for a band. We paid rent and all utilities. Since it was winter we had the thermostat set on 64 F and we practiced/played there about 3 times a week.
After the first month we noticed that sometimes when we arrived, the thermostat would be turned down to 50 F.
We asked the landlord about it and he told us that since we weren't in there every day he was turning it down to save money on fuel. We told him
- our lease allowed us to be in there at any time, any day.
- our instruments don't stay in tune when they are changing temperature while we play them.
- it's bad for musical instruments to be alternately chilled and heated multiple times per week.
-
we're paying for the heat!
He seemed to reluctantly agree to leave the thermostat alone but after another month he started turning it down again. So again we spoke to him about it and again he reluctantly agreed to leave it alone. Over the next month he went in and turned our heat down at least twice a week.
We just moved our stuff out and stiffed him on the last month's rent (it was the same amount as our security deposit) and told him if he tried to enforce the lease for the rest of the year he would see us in small claims court.
