A BBC correspondant's guide to America, a nice read

In light of the recent "Canada Is Messed Up" and "I Wish I were British" threads, I leave you this - BBC correspondent, Kevin Connolly's Guide to American culture. It's truly nice to see something positive for a change.

Cool article for sure. This paragraph cracked me up.....

"And after three years of eating steaks the size of elephant's ears off plates bigger than satellite dishes, all of our crockery back in Europe now looks like it was borrowed from a doll's house. They may take some getting used to."

That was a lovely read.

I still like Top Gear's impression of America as portrayed in their road trip through the south with phrases like "Looking for Gay Love" and "Nascar Sucks" spray painted on their cars.

'Alexis de Tocqueville travelled to the United States on a mission guaranteed to make Americans bristle with irritation. He was going to understand them, and explain them'

Good article, v.funny and interesting, he obviously enjoyed his stay, nice perspective.

It was an entertaining read. He views the United States about the same way as I do

Nice to see an article not laced with political venom.

That's an excellent read, Relic, sincere thanks for posting it here.

As someone who has visited the US quite a lot and enjoyed myself tremendously on each occasion, I have a hard time understanding some of the anti-American sentiment expressed by a few very poorly informed people back here.

Sure, you guys have your funny little quirks - but who doesn't? Count me in as a fan of the steaks, anyway.

LOL, we had some business visitors from Belfast several years ago, and we asked them what they'd like to have for supper. The response: "We're in America. We're going to eat steak."

Hahaha. That's awesome. It's true though, no matter where you go as far as a sit down restaurant, there will be at least one steak available for consumption.

Good read.

"This is America son," he told me, "We help each other out."

All I wanted to say after finishing it is...AMERICA!

I particularly enjoyed this:

"This is after all, the land that gave us prohibition and then invented organised crime to get around it."
