Any of you goobers ever sell beds OR did lots of research on how to buy the perfect bed for you???
My bed needs to go, it's killing me.. I wake up sore all the time and not well rested..
Maybe it'll save me money on diphenhydramine if i get a new and better bed..

Seriously though...that kind of thing is much more likely to be causing you pain and soreness than your bed is.

I'm not exactly sure how you go about trying these things out...I mean, they're not going to just let you sleep in one for a few hours, right?

I personally own a modern-design waterbed which uses a shallow set of water tubes and a dense, shape-conforming foam pad built over them. It's all built inside a nice fabric and foam shell which looks like a standard mattress and doesn't need wooden sideboards.

Both of the above were very comfortable for me but due to an auto accident, my wife just couldn't get comfortable due to back pain.
Solved the mattress problem and the back problem by buying two Xtra-Long twin Tempurpedic mattresses along with a motorized adjustable and vibrating frame and putting them next to each other.
The Tempurpedic mattress can feel worm because the mattress does not disburse heat well. You may need lighter blankets. Also, if you are a big guy, the Tempurpedic can create a "hammock effect" and you may get some back pain/stiffness.
I also looked at an Air Number mattress but went with the Tempurpedic because it worked on an adjustable frame. The individual Air Number firmness setting seemed to work fine and would have been a consideration if I didn't need the adjustable frame.
Since we've had the adjustable frame, it's great for watching TV and to take the pressure off you back by raising the leg end a bit.
Of course, IMO/IME and YMMV. |

We bought a Tempurpedic last year, and we love it. If you dig a real firm solid surface to lay on, don't get one though.

Its rectuangular, not too hard, and the headboard is easy to grasp .
Perfect.

I was not sleeping well and I ended up with sleep apnea. With my CPAP Machine I can sleep all night on my back and after 6.5 hrs I feel great!!!!

One warning about memory foam - it can get very warm and doesn't disperse heat well which can be a problem if you get hot in bed (or sweat). I think the pcketsprung with memory foam is a good balance, but when looking at beds I would suggest getting a realistic idea for what different features cost. If you see a mattress that seems to have all the good features but is a lot cheaper than others, there is a reason for it. Say you have a budget of $1000, and to get a memory foam mattress generally costs about $1500 get the best $1000 mattress (ie top quality) rather than a cheaper quality memory foam one. You are far better off having a top quality mattress in yoru price range than one with heaps of features that is poor quality. You spend 1/3 of your life on the mattress.

*Not really cool, I just haven't found a mattress hard enough for me.

IIRC they said 30 minute minimum because that gives the mattress ample time to conform to you body to where you'll feel springs, hard/softer spots, etc and know how comfortable or uncomfortable it is for your body.
Have you considered a water bed?
