| The best advice that I have heard is to thoroughly research any potential investments. You need to know what you are puting your money into. At the same time, avoid investing in the field in which you work. It's tempting to do so since you understand what you a re investing in, but if the market for that field tanks then you are out a job and lose on your investment.
