Best Bond Flick

I stopped by FYE today on the way home from work because I was in the mood for some new jazz to add to my collection, and walked out with a huge box-set of used James Bond DVDs, and gave them to my dad as a gift.

We got plans to pop in "Goldfinger" tonight, because we both agree that its the best one. It has the classic Bond weirdness/subtle outrageous-ness coupled with action and some sweet Bond one-liners.

Just curious to see which one you guys dig the most.

EDIT: Poll added, but it only allows 20 options, so I had to leave off the two Daniel Craig Bonds (for reasons already mentioned )

Goldeneye was the one that I really loved as a kid, saw it when I was 10 or so (some years after it came out) played the game on Nintendo and all.

But since then I watched most of them and my favorites are Goldfinger and From Russia with Love.

Octopussy. If only for the name.

Not that I could ever pick one, but in a gun-to-the-head scenario, I'm going with Thunderball.

That said, the opening to Goldfinger is the definition of James Bond:

Tough to go wrong with Goldfinger. I think it's the peak of the Connery era--and thus, the peak of the entire series. I've enjoyed a lot of the others, and Roger Moore did a fine job trying to follow him up (a very tough task). But Connery was the man.

Sean Connery Bonds are the best, but Live and Let Die has the great theme song and Jane Seymour.

Moonraker was pretty bad but has the best Bond girl name--Dr. Holly Goodhead.

Ursula Andress in Dr. No:

My favorite has ALWAYS been From Russia With Love. Classic Sean Connery, Robert Shaw was great, not too many gimmicks, and actual acting!

I really didn't like that they turned it into a tongue-in-cheek series with emphasis on techno-gimmicks later.

Goldeneye was the one I really enjoyed as a kid...But then I discovered Connery's Bond.

Other than the Connery-Bond, I'd have to say Casino Royale. I loved it.

God I hate Daniel Craig and this new bond. The old bond didn't enJoy killing, he had to, it seems the new bond likes killing and is less of a spy than an assassin/soldier.

"From Russia with Love" certainly had great acting and Red Grant was the best Bond villain IMO.

The Man With the Golden Gun, and the reason is Britt Eklund.

She was so amazingly effing hot in that one.

I have to admit, the Austin Powers series has kinda ruined the old James Bond movies for me. Hard to watch a lot of them with a straight face now.

I hated that one, so much so that I refused to watch Quantum of Solace. I'm sorry but Daniel Craig ****ing sucks. Bond does not say "balls" ... ever. The whole point of Bond is to exude class and I'm sorry saying "balls," even while being tortured, is not classy or Bond like at all. Not to mention I heard he doesn't even have sex in Quantum (Bond without bedding amazing women).

All that being said I think my favorite is You Only Live Twice. I think its the whole Japan thing that gets me. Favorite Bond girl? I think it's either Jane Seymour, the chick in From Russia With Love or the Russian spy XXX (not Vin Diesel).

You should really add a poll to this!

Here's a man who hasn't read enough of the books.

Classy Bond is strictly for the films--the character is much grittier, and Casino was an attempt to reach back to that.

Now, as to which Bond you prefer, YMMV.

Actually, I enjoyed Casino Royale as a revamp to the series. You got to see Bond in a rawer and slightly more realistic fashion, which was a nice change from the norm. However, the direction they took Bond with QoS was NOT what I was expecting or wanting.

James Bond was no longer who he was meant to be - a suave, intelligent, quick-witted, and classy womanizer. Instead, he might as well been a Jason Bourne cutout. Now that's not to say that I dislike the Bourne movies (far from it), but they aren't Bond movies.

He gets with one girl, but I don't know how since he never once says anything charming or suave around her. In fact, I think he's a complete buttmunch to her the entire movie.

And definitely watch the movie. It's so bad it actually hurts. I wanted to walk out on it, and that almost never happens for me.

and +1 to the poll!

I added the poll, but it limits me to only 20 options, so naturally I left off the Daniel Craig Bonds.
