Santa Claus Is Coming To Town is built like a jazz standard and lots of fun to blow on. BTW if you ever get the chance check out the Christmas album by hornmeister James Morrison out of Australia. Ray Brown's trio with Benny Green and Jeff Hamilton and a killer German big band. It might even be better than A Charlie Brown Christmas. They open with a smokin' cover of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.

Darlene Love "Christmas, Baby Please Come Home" Man can she sing. I enjoy the overproduction that on that once annoyed me.

Possibly some of the most gut-wrenching Yuletide lyrics. Man, I tear up everytime I hear that sleigh bell introduction...

Yes, absolutely. It's got a lot of impact that's for sure. And what's nice is that it works on two levels. On one hand it's simply a nice, mellow Christmas song, dig into the lyrics and the impact of it jumps out. Love it!

Just for those who might not have heard it though I'm sure there aren't many of ya's out there:

It's not really Christmas until I hear Elvis belt out "Blue Christmas".

2:05 to me is the best written piece of music. Ever. The harmony there is out of this world.
+1 to "O Holy Night". That one, done properly, can give me shivers.

Another one that always seemed more melancholy than anything is "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". I always interpreted it as being sung by someone who is away from their loved ones during Christmas. One line in particular points to this: "Through the years we all will be together / If the fates allow". That part gets me every time.

"Happy X-Mas (War is Over)"--John Lennon & Yoko Ono

I always thought it was kind of a monotonous ditty droning on in the background, until a few years ago when I began performing it as part of an annual holiday concert.
It typifies Lennon's brilliant way of slipping a profound, sobering, inspiring message into a seemingly innocuous pop song.
Trust me, when you're in a chorus of people singing "War is over, if you want it", the hairs on your neck are standing up... or you're dead.
Incredibly powerful song.

Other than that... "Christmas Wrapping" gets my vote!
