Best MP3 Player for Musicians?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for a good quality MP3 player that has at least 2 gigs of storage AND has some sort of recorder built into it so I can record band rehearsals etc.

Price should be b/n $100 and $300.

Suggestions?

The Zen Vision M's have a microphone built into it which you can record off of, but I am not sure if it'd be what you're looking for as far as band practices go. I have never tried to use the mic on it in a setting like that. It records conversations fantastically though haha

If you want to hear what you're recording with any quality and clarity, the important part is to NOT use any built-in mike. The built-ins are not capable of recording anything other than casual conversation or dictation - that's what they're designed for.

You will need at least a couple of mikes and an external mixer. There's no other way to get quality sound INTO the MP3 player. The recorder doesn't matter as much as the mike setup you use to feed the signal into it...because it's just like a computer: garbage in=garbage out.

my Zoom H2 has 4 internal mics.... but then like I said it's a recorder more than a player.

Full band recordings sound great.

That zoom H2 looks very cool... Just not sure about it for just simple MP3 player applications.

iRiver 320/340 if you can find one. Built in mic, and the recording features if you install the custom fireware, Rockbox, are great. And Rockbox has a metronome... :P
