Best Picture, 2013

Out of the nominees, who should win?

And what movies should've been nominated?

Am I a bad person for having not seen any of these films?

Nah. I think it's a considerably weaker round of nominees this year than usual.

There were loads of movies getting pre-Oscar buzz, and the only one that actually got nominated was Lincoln.
Moonrise Kingdom, Looper, Dark Knight Rises, Skyfall, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Magic Mike, Flight, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, even The Avengers.

Strong year for movies, but relatively weak on the nominees.

I was about to say that I have only seen one of those films. Going to the movies simply doesn't interest me anymore. It's just too expensive for what it is.

I've only seen one of those, too

I wouldn't mind seeing some of those films, but I always wait for the DVD. I'll probably come back to this thread in about a year with my poll answer.

I saw Django and Life of Pi. Life of Pi is one of my
top 2 of 2012. While I'm a Tarantino fan, I don't think
Django deserves a Best Picture nomination. I also
thought Tom Hanks deserved a Best Actor nod for
Cloud Atlas. And I'm not really a Hanks fan.

Oh, I forgot to add...Zero Dark Thirty put me to sleep.
I think this is some kind of American patriotic nomination.

Argo won.

Point moot.

Me neither. I think the last time I actually went to the movies was when the last Harry Potter came out, and even that was a few months after it was released.

I used to love going to the movies, but I am not into pretty much anything they are releasing these days. Add to the fact that it's insanely expensive and I'm really not interested.

I think average movie ticket prices are about $12.50 in my area. Buying for two can be expensive.
However, the Edwards theater near my house is $6 all day Sunday and Tuesday.
We also have a "cheap" theater that shows first run movies for $7. It used to be $3, but then they spent some money upgrading the place.

Another trick to save money is to sneak in your own snacks.

Always.
I might buy a soda from the concession stand, so as not to overcrowd my ladies purse with stuff. (the candy fits easier that way).
Every trip to the movies starts with a stop at CVS!
