I have a DSLR, but want a decent point and shoot to grab on the go. I'd like to keep it under $200. Video is a plus. Manual setting options are good too. Other than that, I'm open.
I've read reviews and looked at the sites, but I would like to hear what your real world experiences are.
Thanks |

But if I am carrying a P&S it's a Canon SD of some sort.

Panasonic, Canon and Fuji make excellent point and shoots, Nikon does too, but I prefer their DSLR's.
My local BigLots was blowing out 12mp Kodak point and shoots for 80 bucks NIB. Still not that great a deal, but a decent price. Shop around tiger direct, new egg, and watch on Woot.com....they pop up all the time. iirc, woot had some earlier this week. read up on Gizmodo or Engadget too....reliable reviews.

I think there'll always be some market there tho.

| | | I like Ken Rockwell's camera site.
Here he gives a list of recommended cameras at various price points.
$200 is about 1/3rd the way down the page: Recommended Cameras
Poke around the site and you'll find lots of common-sense photo advice. |

I keep one on my stand.. can hand it out to someone... then have 100+ shots back

If you can find a p&s that shoots raw files, fine. But the S95 can (out)perform like no tomorrow, in the dark, without flash, with video, in stereo. I got one to shoot bands--a lot of venues don't allow SLR's but you can get brilliant, rich shots with the S95. Great color AND you can bracket on it. My prediction is every photojournalist will abandon their heavy gear & walk around w an S95 in hand if they haven't already.
Don't bother with G12; it's the SAME camera but for dummies who want to show off/get their s stolen. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
