Beware of this IRS scam!

I got an email from the IRS, with my full name, saying I owed some amount of money.

The message said this:

From: Internal Revenue Service [mailto:no-reply@irs.gov]
To: my email
Subject: Notice of Underreported Income

Taxpayer ID: myname and some numbers
issue: Underreported Income

Please review your tax statement on Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website (click on the link below):

review tax statement for taxpayer id

Internal Revenue Service

When I browsed over the link, there was a very long website that started with: irs . gov.nuhh1z . eu (I removed the link cause I'm not sure if it goes to a virus)

I went into that site and it said I had to pay this much amount there was an "Internal Revenue Service" logo right there with blue color layout.

I went to actual IRS website and the logo only says "IRS.gov", and it had the same colors as the "fake" IRS website.

I called an accountant and he says the IRS doesn't send such things by email, and that the website was fake. It is a scam.

I googled it as well and it shows is a scam.

Be careful out there TB, scam artists are really good at their jobs.

Also look at the address, .eu? When is the last time you would even consider the irs would not be a .gov suffix? Plus as stated above they would never contact you via email.

The subject might as well have been:
Voluntary Stupidity Tax, send cash.

I've been through the biz with the IRS before on matters of them saying I owed them more money, and all communication was done by official snail mail and direct contact with the powers that be. No e-mailing. I'm glad the OP avoided a scam, and thanks for warning others.
